Overhead wires to be connected in Edinburgh – trams to terminate at West End

Another sure sign of progress on the Trams to Newhaven project is the installation of the overhead wires and it has now been confirmed that these will be connected up to the existing line in York Place later this month. Whilst this work takes place a revised service will run on Edinburgh Trams with all services from the Airport only running as far as West End.

Trams will run between Airport and West End between Monday 23rd and Sunday 29th January. Edinburgh Trams have said that completing the work in this way will allow it to be completed more quickly and safer.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said: “We are aware that this temporary suspension of services to St Andrew Square and Princes Street stops may cause inconvenience to some customers, and we would like to apologise in advance for this unavoidable disruption to our usual services. However, these works are required to ensure we can commence intensive testing on the new line at the earliest possible date.”

During the line closure, Edinburgh Trams tickets will be accepted on Lothian Buses from West End to Princes Street and St Andrew Square.
