Christmas and New Year services 2022/23

Once again we bring you a one-stop article to see what services are planned on tramway and light rail systems across the British Isles over the Christmas and New Year period. So, if you are fed up with staying at home and feel that you need some tram action take a look here to see just what sort of service is being operated.

Blackpool Tramway

Saturday 24th December: Normal timetable with final trams at 2000 from Starr Gate and returning from Fleetwood at 2105

Sunday 25th December: No service

Monday 26th December: No service

Tuesday 27th December to Friday 30th December: Normal timetable

Saturday 31st December: Normal timetable with final trams at 2000 from Starr Gate and returning from Fleetwood at 2105

Sunday 1st January 2023: No service

A normal service on the trams resume from Monday 2nd January 2023

Docklands Light Railway

Saturday 24th December: Journeys should be completed by 2230

Sunday 25th December: No service

Monday 26th December: First trains will run from 0830 with a reduced service in operation

Tuesday 27th, Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th, Friday 30th December: Saturday service

Saturday 31st December: Saturday daytime service. There will be a special all-night service.

Sunday 1st January 2023: Sunday service

Monday 2nd January 2023: Saturday service

Normal timetables resume from Tuesday 3rd January 2023

Edinburgh Trams

Saturday 24th December: Normal service with trams every 7 minutes until 1900 and then every 10 minutes until the end of service

Sunday 25th December: No service

Monday 26th December to Thursday 29th December: Normal service with trams from every 7 minutes

Friday 30th December: Normal service with trams every 7 minutes until 1200. Trams will then run from Airport to West End only (every 3-5 minutes from 1630 for 1872 Cup at Murrayfield).

Saturday 31st December: Trams running Airport to West End from every 7 minutes. Free all night trams from midnight to 0500 (running every 15 minutes).

Sunday 1st January 2023: Trams run Airport to West End until 1000 then normal service between Airport and St Andrew Square from every 7 minutes

Normal timetables will resume from Monday 2nd January 2023

London Tramlink

Saturday 24th December: Normal service with a reduced evening service

Sunday 25th December: No service

Monday 26th December: Sunday service with disruption expected between Dundonald Road and Wimbledon due to national rail strike action

Tuesday 27th, Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th & Friday 30th December: Sunday service

Saturday 31st December: Sunday service during the day. A special overnight service will run.

Sunday 1st & Monday 2nd January 2023: Sunday service

Normal timetables resume from Tuesday 3rd January 2023

Luas

Saturday 24th December: Services will end at 2000

Sunday 25th December: No service

Monday 26th December: Sunday frequency from 0900

Tuesday 27th December: Sunday service

Wednesday 28th & Thursday 29th December: Saturday service

Friday 30th December: Sunday service

Saturday 31st December: Saturday service plus Night Luas (hourly services between 0100 and 0300 on Red and Green lines)

Sunday 1st January & Monday 2nd January 2023: Sunday service

Normal timetables resume from Tuesday 3rd January 2023

Manchester Metrolink

Saturday 24th December: Saturday service with final trams between 2000 and 2100. Rail strikes mean that after 1800 services to Altrincham will terminate and start from Timperley with a replacement bus service.

Sunday 25th December: No service

Monday 26th December: Sunday service with all services to Altrincham terminating and starting from Timperley because of rail strikes – replacement buses to Altrincham. Access to Piccadilly Metrolink stop is only via Fairfield Street.

Tuesday 27th December: Sunday service with services to Altrincham until 0700 terminating and starting from Timperley because of rail strikes. Enhanced service will run for Manchester United v Nottingham Forest.

Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th & Friday 30th December: Normal service

Saturday 31st December: Saturday service with enhanced service for Manchester City v Everton. Extended operating hours with last trams from city centre at 0100.

Sunday 1st January & Monday 2nd January 2023: Sunday service.

Normal timetables resume from Tuesday 3rd January 2023 (although rail strikes on 3rd January will mean revised services to Altrincham)

Nottingham Express Transit

Saturday 24th December: Normal service

Sunday 25th December: No service

Monday 26th & Tuesday 27th December: Sunday service

Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th & Friday 30th December: Normal service

Saturday 31st December: Normal service

Sunday 1st * Monday 2nd January 2023: Sunday service

Stagecoach Supertram

Saturday 24th December: Saturday timetable with early finish. Last trams from city centre at 1800-1830 with last trams from outer termini around 1830-1900. Due to strike action the last Tram-Train service will be 1600 ex-Cathedral and 1631 ex-Rotherham Parkgate.

Sunday 25th December: No service

Monday 26th December: Special service from 0800-2100. Yellow route runs Meadowhall to Middlewood every 20 minutes and Festive Blue runs Meadowhall to Halfway every 20 minutes. No Purple route or Tram-Train service will operate and no trams will run to Malin Bridge.

Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th December: Saturday service. The first Tram-Train service will be 0800 from Cathedral and 0831 from Parkgate due to railway strike action.

Saturday 31st December: Saturday timetable with early finish. Last trams from city centre at 1800-1830 with last trams from outer termini around 1830-1900.

Sunday 1st January 2023: Special service from 0830-1900. Yellow route will run Meadowhall-Middlewood every 30 minutes, Tram-Train will run Rotherham Parkgate-Cathedral every 30 minutes and Blue route will run Halfway-Cathedral every 30 minutes. No Purple route service and no trams to Malin Bridge.

Monday 2nd January 2023: Sunday service

Normal timetables resume from Tuesday 3rd January 2023

Tyne and Wear Metro

Saturday 24th December: Normal Saturday service until 1800 (1430 between Pelaw and Park Lane) then hourly service on each line (30 minutes between Pelaw and South Gosforth)

Sunday 25th December: No service

Monday 26th December: Revised weekday service from 0800-2000 (about 1830 between Pelaw and Park Lane)

Tuesday 27th to Friday 30th December: Normal weekday timetable (with no additional peak time trains on Tuesday 27th)

Saturday 31st December: Normal service until 2200 then 30 minute service (15 minutes between Pelaw and South Gosforth)

Sunday 1st January 2023: No service

Monday 2nd January 2023: Normal weekday timetable (with no additional peak time trains)

West Midlands Metro

Saturday 24th December: Normal service

Sunday 25th December: No service

Monday 26th December: Sunday service with trams up to every 12 minutes

Tuesday 27th December 2022 to Monday 2nd January 2023: Trams running every 20 minutes from Seaton to Colyton between 1000 and 1600
