Tram service announced for first West Midlands Metro strikes

A limited tram service will run during the first four days of industrial action on the West Midlands Metro it has been confirmed. With Sunday service frequencies in place, reduced hours of operation and no trams between Bull Street and Edgbaston Village it’s a pared down timetable which attempts to still get people moving.

Although there are scheduled to be 53 days of strike action up until January 2023 service plans have only been announced for the first four – Saturday 15th, Tuesday 18th, Thursday 20th and Saturday 22nd October.

Saturday 15th and Saturday 22nd October

  • Trams will operate between 0830 and 1700
  • Services will run every 15 minutes between Wolverhampton St George’s and Bull Street only
  • There will be no trams between Bull Street and Edgbaston Village

Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th October

  • Trams will operate between 0730 and 1800
  • Services will run every 15 minutes between Wolverhampton St George’s and Bull Street only
  • There will be no trams between Bull Street and Edgbaston Village

On the page on their website detailing the changes West Midlands Metro have said: “On the impending strike days, we will be doing everything possible to operate the very best service that we can. Having finalised plans for the first four dates, we have been able to minimise the impact on the majority of journeys. Midland Metro Limited values our colleagues and their contribution to delivering a safe and secure, reliable and sustainable service to the communities that we serve, naturally we are disappointed by this decision, despite our extensive efforts to reach an amicable agreement.”
