In Pictures: Queen’s Baton travels on West Midlands Metro

As we reported earlier this week, the new West Midlands Metro extension along Broad Street has already welcomed its first special guests (not that normal passengers are anything but special of course) – with the Queen’s Baton Relay taking a short ride along Broad Street on the evening of Wednesday 27th July.

The Queen’s Baton Relay has visited every single Commonwealth country and started in Cyprus back on 9th October 2021. It arrived in Jersey on 10th June 2022 before visiting Guernsey, Isle of Man, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and finally started a trip around England from 4th July. During the relay it will have covered 90,000 miles and over 7,500 Batonbearers have got to carry it within their local communities.

With the Commonwealth Games starting on Thursday 28th July in Birmingham, the Baton was coming towards the end of its journey the previous day and that was then it took a short tram ride on the newly opened Birmingham Westside extension. Boarding Urbos100 39 at Brindleyplace the baton was carried as far as Library where it alighted in preparation for its final leg to Alexandra Stadium and the Opening Ceremony.

39 gets ready for its starring role standing at Edgbaston Village.
