Out and About: Tyne and Wear Metro at Tynemouth Station

Whilst we consider the Tyne and Wear Metro to be a relatively modern system (if you can still call the early 1980s as modern!) a lot of the infrastructure – particularly at stations – is of a much older vintage, such as the station at Tynemouth. And that’s where we head for today’s edition of “Out and About”.

Tynemouth Station originally opened in 1882 and 98 years later the Metro arrived and started to serve the impressive station. In this first photo we see 4016 on the rear of a St James to South Shields service via The Coast.

Then we see 4004 leading another four car formation with a service from South Shields to St James via The Coast. (Both Photographs by Roy Calderwood, 11th May 2022)
