Extra late night trams for Edinburgh Festival

There will be trams until 0130 on Fridays and Saturdays during August to help visitors and residents alike make the most of events taking place during the Edinburgh Festival. Trams will run every 20 minutes until the normal close of service after which there will be a special 20 minute frequency.

Trams from Edinburgh Airport will depart at 2308, 2328, 2348, 0008, 0028 and 0048 with return trips from At Andrew Square at 2352, 0012, 0032, 0052, 0112 and 0132. All these trips will run the full length of the current tramway – and all being well this should be the last time that Edinburgh Festival extra trams will only be running to and from St Andrew Square with, by 2023, the route due to be extended to Newhaven.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said: “Throughout August the city is home to a series of world-famous events, including the main festival, Royal Edinburgh Tattoo and acclaimed Fringe performances, and we wanted to make it as easy as possible to get to and from venues, even late at night. In previous years, thousands of people have taken advantage of our late-night services and they’ve certainly proved a hit with festival goers. They are clearly popular and reflect our commitment to first-class customer service. Until the early hours of the morning, trams will serve all stops between St Andrew Square and the airport with our normal range of tram tickets accepted at no extra cost.”

There remains the risk of strike action during the Festival over the latest pay offer although no dates have yet to be announced.
