Picture in Time: Seaton Tramway 2

Starting from today “Picture in Time” returns to Devon for a selection of images taken on the Seaton Tramway during a visit by Bob Hodges on 28th August 1995.

The first tram we feature is the lowest numbered passenger tram in the fleet, no. 2. Based on elements of full-sized trams which ran in London on Metropolitan Electric Tramways and London United Tramways, 2 was originally built for the Modern Electric Tramways operation in Eastbourne and was one of the trams which was moved to Seaton and regauged to the 2 foot 9 inch gauge used in Devon during 1970. For the past 50 years the tram has run in Seaton and unlike many of the cars in the fleet it has stayed pretty much the same – same red and white livery and no significant rebuilds.

This photo shows 2 at the intermediate stop of Colyford on 28th August 1995 with the image captured from the top deck of no. 6.
