Fisherman’s Walk to be temporary terminus for up to 8 weeks

When we ran our report last week on the forthcoming Vintage Weekend on the Blackpool Tramway we noted that heritage tram services would be terminating at Fisherman’s Walk and now we know why! There will be works taking place on Lord Street in Fleetwood for up to 8 weeks from Monday 31st January which means all trams – modern and heritage alike – will only be running as far as Fisherman’s Walk.

It is gas works which will be taking place on Lord Street with Cadent undertaking the work to upgrade a pipe which has been in operation since the 1920s. An underground metallic pipe will be replaced by a tough plastic pipe during the works.

Throughout the work all core service trams from Starr Gate will terminate at Fisherman’s Walk and although there will be no dedicated bus replacement you will be able to use the service bus 14 from Fisherman’s Walk to Fleetwood Ferry or the 1, 14 or 74/75 from Fleetwood Ferry.

It will also affect Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours with all Coastal Tours in this period being forced to turn short at Fisherman’s Walk. Its not clear whether the new 40 minute layover at Fleetwood will remain in place.

The works are due to be completed within 8 weeks.
