Edinburgh Trams driver receives “Tramtastic” award for preventing antisocial behaviour

Richard Anderson, tram driver for Edinburgh Trams, has been recognised for his outstanding customer service skills in the company’s internal “You are Tramtastic” award scheme. He was praised for helping a colleague deal with a group of youngsters who were behaving antisocially on a tram, remaining calm throughout and staying onboard until the youths dispersed.

Edinburgh Trams’ employee recognition scheme – “You Are Tramtastic” – awards colleagues with a monthly prize with the annual winner being decided each year by the Edinburgh Trams Board of Directors.

Lea Harrison, Managing Director of Edinburgh Trams, said: “It is important for us that we recognise our colleagues who demonstrate our core values throughout their work. All the ‘Tramtastic’ winners show how passionate we are about the vital role we play in the city’s public transport system.”

Sue Bucher, Edinburgh Trams HR Manager, said: “Despite the ongoing pandemic, we had fifty colleagues nominated for going that extra mile. Monthly nominations are judged by the management team and the trade union using the Edinburgh Trams’ values of being Trusted, Innovative, Passionate and Smart.”

Richard himself commented: “When you work with the public, you have to have patience, listen to your customers and, if you can empathise with them, that is great. The key is not to be judgemental but honest.”

Nominations for the “You Are Tramtastic” award are open each month with a monthly prize of a £100 Amazon voucher and an annual award of a £250 Amazon voucher.
