In Pictures: Trams on test on the West Midlands Metro

As we wait for a confirmed date for the return of passenger services on the West Midlands Metro (expected to be sometime this week unless something unexpected happens) there has been a significant increase in trams out on the line as testing ramps up. Monday 13th November saw at least five trams in use, including the newest of the trams to have been delivered – 45.

The tram on test were not running to any kind of timetable with them following each other along the line and its also not thought they ran the whole length of the line. They ran both under battery and overhead power with the pantograph being raised when running towards Wolverhampton at Lodge Road.

Its not quite the news we wanted but we do seem to be getting closer to a time when trams run in service again!

21 out on test at Bilston Central heading towards Birmingham.

The newest Urbos 100 tram, none of which have yet to enter service, 45 was also out on test. We see it here just pulling away from Lodge Road with its pantograph raised.

19 at Lodge Road also heads towards Wolverhampton.

28 comes into Lodge Road. Note that it is running under battery power with the pantograph lowered. (All Photographs by Andy Walters, 13th December 2021)
