In Pictures: Telford Steam Tramway

A line which gets very little mention on these pages is the unique Telford Steam Tramway which runs on a 2 foot gauge at the Telford Steam Railway in Horsehay, Shropshire. The line is now a circular route and has been running at this location since the mid-1980s having previously run for a short-time in Telford Town Park. Although it has been closed during 2021 due to technical issues it is planned to reopen in 2022.

The tram itself was built by Alan Keef Ltd in 1979 for Telford Development Corporation and it is thought that the carriage was also built by Alan Keef Ltd. It is now the only operational steam tram in the UK and provides a glimpse into the past of a time when there were several steam tramways across the country.

The steam tram and carriage is prepared for another day of service.

Another view of the steam tram as it passes a picnic area on its loop line.

Taking a break.
