Emergency engineering works and strike to cause Metrolink disruption this weekend

If you’re wanting to travel on Manchester Metrolink this coming weekend (9th/10th October) there will be significant disruption on the network with emergency engineering works at Deansgate-Castlefield on Saturday 9th meaning there will be no cross city services from that direction until 1500 while the previously announced strike action will see a very limited service running throughout Sunday 10th October.

Saturday 9th October

The emergency engineering works at Deansgate-Castlefield will affect services on practically every route (the only working running as normal will be the Bury to Piccadilly service). The work is due to be completed after 1500 and until then the following services will run:

  • Bury to Piccadilly
  • Rochdale Town Centre to Exchange Square
  • Ashton-under-Lyne to Victoria
  • Altrincham to Deansgate-Castlefield
  • East Didsbury to Deansgate-Castlefield
  • Eccles to Cornbrook via MediaCityUK
  • The Trafford Centre to Wharfside
  • Manchester Airport to Trafford Bar

There will be acceptance on the X50 and X52 bus service for passengers on the Eccles and Trafford Park lines with all other passengers advised to either walk or use the free city centre bus service.

Then from 1500 the following tram services will run:

  • Bury to Piccadilly
  • Rochdale Town Centre to East Didsbury
  • Ashton-under-Lyne to Eccles via MediaCityUK
  • Altrincham to Piccadilly
  • Altrincham to Victoria (1500 to 2230)
  • The Trafford Centre to Cornbrook
  • Manchester Airport to Trafford Bar

Sunday 10th October

The first of the strikes called by Unite the Union over the pay dispute (the latest information from TfGM now states that the latest offer was a minimum 5% over 2 years) a severely reduced service will run on Manchester Metrolink between 0700 and 1900 only:

  • Altrincham to Piccadilly every 6 minutes
  • The Trafford Centre to Victoria every 12 minutes

There will be ticket acceptance on some local bus services but these are subject to disruption because of diversions as a result of the Manchester Marathon taking place. There will be some special shuttle buses for participants of the Marathon but no other replacement bus services will run.
