Punctuality down and reliability up in latest Metrolink performance figures

The performance figures for Manchester Metrolink are now being released quarterly as opposed to every four weeks and the latest quarter – covering the period between 27th June and 18th September – has shown that although punctuality has fallen since the last quarter reliability has increased.

Punctuality

Percentage of trams departing less than 2 minutes late

This quarter features three four week periods:

Period 4 – 81.9%

Period 5 – 89.7%

Period 6 – 87.1%

There was a significant decrease in period 4 (period 3 ended at 91.4%) but this has seen an increase since although it remains lower than at the end of the last quarter.

The highest performing route was the Altrincham line at 92.5% with the lowest route being the Oldham and Rochdale line at 82.4%

Reliability

Percentage of planned miles operated

The three quarters for this quarter are:

Period 4 – 92.7%

Period 5 – 96.4%

Period 6 – 97.4%

While there was a fall in reliability in period 4 (period 3 had been at 96.4%) this has risen again since. Metrolink was particularly affected by the “pingdemic” which may account for some of the issues with reliability.

The highest performing route were the Bury and Oldham and Rochdale lines (98.3%) with the other end of the scale being the Trafford Park line at 93.9%.

There were 2.45% of all journeys cancelled and 0.29% of all planned journeys were incomplete.
