Manchester Metrolink Engineering Work: Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 June

There will be no trams between Bury and Victoria on Saturday 15 June and between Bury and Piccadilly and Central Park and Piccadilly on Sunday 16 June because of further engineering works. Replacement bus services will again be put into operation with both days seeing a service running from Bury to Piccadilly and then on the Sunday a bus will run from Central Park to Piccadilly. Neither of these buses will serve Shudehill and Market Street.

This is going to become more commonplace in the future as the work on Victoria station roof is now extending over the Metrolink platform.

  2. GLYN R HILL says:

the TMS is being commisioned on the Bury Line this weekend and the Altrincam line before the end of the Month, with that all the Metrolink will be TMS.

That is highly improbable as none of the equipment has yet been installed on either the Bury or Altrincham lines yet.

The next area to be converted is due to be Deansgate Castlefield to Cornbrook next month.

This simply is untrue. Nice try at being a ‘troll’ but we’re all more knowledgeable than that!

  3. Bob says:

Erm… are you sure about that Glyn? Because I’m not…!

  4. Ken Walker says:

So why WAS the Bury line closed on Saturday if not TMS work?

    • roger woodhead says:

The Bury line was closed on Saturday so that those of us using the tram from Altrincham to Piccadilly or Victoria could travel on T68/A trams which covered most workings. Only 2 M5000 were seen by me. The Altrincham line was like it was before the M5000 blackened the scene i.e . trams had seats which were comfortable to sit on (an overheard passenger comment). That is my opinion as to why the Bury line was shut!!

More work at Victoria and I believe some work on Queens Road stop although that needs confirmation.

      • Colin Smith says:

Travelled several times on the Bury line this afternoon. Work undertaken over the weekend was relaying track between Buckley Wells and the approaches to Bury station. There is still some fettling, mainly tamping, to be completed there. Another stretch relaid was between Abraham Moss and Crumpsall on the inbound side. Some additional scaffold has been erected at Victoria but I couldn’t detect any work having been done at Queen’s Road. There is some evidence of working starting to prepare the site for the new stop, but that situation has not changed in over a week. Finally, I noted that the overbridges between Whitefield and Radcliffe have all been scaffolded out. It would look like this is to facilitate repainting into corporate colours.
