In Pictures: Overhead update in Blackpool

We have now entered the second of four weeks which were originally scheduled for the installation of overhead wires along the route of the tramway extension along Talbot Road in Blackpool and the progress being made continues to be at the Prom end of the line as we see in these latest images from Tony Armitage.

As well as the stringing of new wires for the extension there has also been some adjustment to the wires on the mainline. In addition to that there are extra wires on the south curve since we last took a look. So far it seems that the work is being completed on Monday to Thursday nights with work seemingly not taking place at weekends.

Looking along the mainline towards the Metropole Hotel next to the stop at North Pier here we see the overhead in place plus some of the new span wires which have been installed so far.

As 008 passes on the mainline we look from Talbot Road with a number of span wires now in place.

Another view of the span wires already installed at the junction of the mainline and extension to the Blackpool North Railway Station. (Photographs x3 by Tony Armitage, 14th July 2021)

The next day and a further span wire is now in place.

Meanwhile work is continuing up at Wilko’s on the new track. (Photographs x2 by Tony Armitage, 15th July 2021)
