Lockdown Walks: Stagecoach Supertram 119

In this instalment of “Lockdown Walks” we find ourselves in Sheffield City Centre.

The stop at Castle Square is one of only three stop on the network which is served by all standard scheduled services (except for early morning/evening services returning to depot).  With Blue route services between Malin Bridge and Halfway, Purple route working from Herdings Park to Cathedral, Yellow route services running from Middlewood through to Meadowhall and the Tram-Train service from Rotherham Parkgate to Cathedral all serving the stop it is a busy interchange for those passengers wishing to change between routes (although you can also easily change at Cathedral and Fitzalan Square of course).

Showing the hilly nature of the city centre this view shows 119 calling at Castle Square as it works on the Yellow route between Meadowhall and Middlewood. (Photograph by Stuart Cooke, 29th April 2021)

Since it’s first Stagecoach livery 119 has always had its side fleet number in the wrong position on just one corner.
