Tyne and Wear Metro celebrate 40 years with a new livery

2020 was due to see celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the Tyne and Wear Metro which opened in 1980 but as with so much this year those celebrations are likely to be much lower key than planned. But one aspect of the celebrations which are still going ahead is a new livery on original Metrocar 4001 – which can be best described as a “best of”!

Unveiled on 11th June 4001 has received a livery which features the main livery styles carried on the Metrocars over the years – from the original yellow livery through to the current black livery. In total four different liveries are featured on the unit with the only main style not seen the green and yellow version.

Both ends of the train feature the current black and yellow colours whilst one section of the side immediately behind the cab also included this livery. The original (duller) yellow livery also features immediately behind the other cab whilst the centre of the train sees the Blue and Yellow and the Red and Yellow liveries featured.

A photo of the new look 4001 is available on the Tyne and Wear Metro Twitter feed.
