More tram v road vehicle incidents on Metrolink

The past few days have seen further collisions between road vehicles and trams on Manchester Metrolink – both affecting the Ashton-under-Lyne line. The first incident happened on Saturday 18th January shortly before Manchester City kicked off their match against Crystal Palace with the second collision three days later on Tuesday 21st January.

In the first collision M5000 3016 was the tram involved with a Stagecoach double deck bus in Merrill Street at around 1430. This led to all services from Eccles and MediaCityUK unable to run through to Ashton with those from Eccles running to Piccadilly and from MediaCityUK to Deansgate-Castlefield. A service was then running from Clayton Hall to Ashton. There were no injuries reported and a service resumed from around 1500.

The second one happened on Tuesday 21st January with M5000 3095 and a grey car colliding at around 1600. No injuries were reported but damage was seen on both the tram and the car. The incident happened in Audenhsaw close to the Snipe pub and led to no trams able to run between Droylsden and Ashton-under-Lyne for just over an hour and a half. A full service started to resume from 1740.
