Progress continues on Bluebird restoration

It’s the major restoration project that has been ongoing in Crich’s conservation workshop since June 2014 and recently there has been some more excellent progress on London County Council 1, or Bluebird if you prefer.

The upper deck has seen excellent progress with the chrome trim and glass for the coving panels and lights now all in place whilst the seat bases have also now been fitted.

Other work has been concentrating on the folding step mechanism which was an original feature of the tram when it operated in London but was removed once the tramcar moved up to Leeds. This has meant there has been a lot of research involved to work out how the step works and now the workshop team are making good progress on this not crucial but nonetheless important part of the tram as they seek to show the tram as it was when it first entered service in the capital.
