Fancy being a tram driver? Blackpool & Manchester advertise for staff

Both the Blackpool Tramway and Manchester Metrolink are now advertising for tram drivers as the former continues to prepare for the opening of the upgraded tramway whilst
Metrolink looks for extra drivers as the network expands.

The first jobs to be advertised were those in Blackpool where they are seeking Trainee
Driver/Conductors for their “state of the art tram system”. This is the first time in many years that Blackpool Transport are seeking to employ brand new staff from outside the company specifically as tram drivers but interestingly they will also be doubling up as conductors (similar to Nottingham Express Transit).

Applicants for these jobs must be over 21 and have held a full driving licence for 12
months. Experience of dealing with the general public and a commitment to providing excellent customer service is essential. Once any applicants get through the interview process they will start a six week training programme and start their NVQ level 2 in Rail Services. The starting salary for the job is just £16,000. Further details of the job can be found on the Blackpool Transport website – http://www.blackpooltransport.com/Careers1.aspx.

Meanwhile Manchester Metrolink have also recently opened applications for Tram Drivers
with a deadline for these set as 26th February. Metrolink demand that you should have been driving for two years since passing your test and that further driving experience would be an advantage.

The salary for the Metrolink driver job is set at £18.404.66 which rises to £23,005.83 after a probationary period. Further details on these jobs are available on the Manchester Metrolink website – http://www.metrolink.co.uk/recruitment/Vacancy.aspx?JobVacancyID=8
