Shudehill and Cornbrook stops to close for improvement works

This summer will see two busy Manchester Metrolink stops close temporarily to allow for works in improving passenger facilities to take place. The works will take place at both Shudehill and Cornbrook over the summer which will necessitate the closure of the stops (Shudehill for much longer than Cornbrook) but trams will still continue to run past the stops.

Shudehill will be closed throughout from 0100 on Thursday 29th August until 0400 on Saturday 14th September whilst Cornbrook will be closed from 0100 on Saturday 21st to 0500 on Monday 23rd September and from 0100 on Saturday 28th to 0500 on Monday 30th September. Trams will continue to run through these stops during these periods but will not stop there with passengers advised to make alternative arrangements.

The work will see new lighting, CCTV and equipment upgrades at both stops, along with new shelters and crossing point at Shudehill and an improved stair/entrance area, canopy extension and platform weather protection at Cornbrook. It is planned that the work will be undertaken overnight to minimise impact on businesses and passengers.

In addition to these works the Eccles line will be closed from 0100 on Sunday 22nd to 0500 on Monday 23rd September with a full replacement bus service in operation instead.

Danny Vaughan, TfGM Head of Metrolink, said: “This work will provide a number of vital improvements that will not only make the stops much more pleasant to use but also improve their safety, security and accessibility. Unfortunately, it will result in some disruption for passengers for some short periods of time – but we have done a lot of planning to keep customers informed and ensure that they plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time to travel. Our customers have high levels of customer satisfaction – 89 per cent satisfaction in our most recent survey – but we’re always looking to improve their overall experience and encourage more people to use the network.”
