The latest service performance statistics on the Manchester Metrolink system have been released on the TfGM Committee website – http://www.transportforgreatermanchestercommittee.gov.uk/download/4289/item_05_metrolink_service_performance. This latest report gives details on period 7 and 8 between Monday 17th October and Sunday 11th December 2011.
Performance
Performance went down during these periods. Operated Mileage fell from 99.22% in period 6 to 99.20% in period 7 but falling again to 98.56% in period 8. The Moving
Annual Average ended period 8 at 98.94%. Most miles lost in these two periods was put down to vehicle availability (69.4% of all miles lost was due to this).
Major Incidents
18th October 2011 – A tram failed at Stretford outbound with a compressor fault at 1002. The failed tram was moved to Altrincham at 1040.
7th November 2011 – The start of service was severely disrupted due to a high number of vehicle failures.
25th November 2011 – A protest involving six scaffolding trucks on the tracks at Anchorage caused disruption during the morning. A driver reported the incident at 0745 and the trucks were finally removed at 0915 to allow Eccles line services to resume.
29th November 2011 – A car drove into an overhead stanchion at Shudehill at 1400. Services on then Bury route terminated at Victoria with all trams from Altrincham and St Werburgh’s being forced to run into Piccadilly. This was described as a serious Police incident and the area was not cleared until 2024 when services could resume as normal.
30th November 2011 – The points at Queens Road Junction lost detection at 0540. These points are used to route trams from the Depot to the inbound line for start of service but they failed after the first trams had left the Depot. The fault was repaired at 0629.
30th November 2011 – An organised TUC protest caused Metrolink services in the City
Centre to be suspended between 1208 and 1255.
2nd December 2011 – A tram failed at Piccadilly Gardens at 1040 following electrical testing work. All services ran direct across the City with trams not able to return to Piccadilly until 1146.
7th December 2011 – A tram failed at 0742 on High Street inbound. As a result Bury services were turned at Victoria with all other services running into Piccadilly. The tram was moved at 0834 and normal services resumed.
7th December 2011 – A tram was involved in a collision with a car at the junction of South Langworthy Road and Kansas Avenue at 1250. Metrolink services ran only to MediaCityUK with no trams from there to Eccles. After Police checks the line was reopened at 1320.
7th December 2011 – A tram collided with a female pedestrian on High Street at 1328. The woman was taken to hospital and trams resumed across the City at 1356.
10th December 2011 – A tram failed at Pomona at 1202. All Eccles services ran into MediaCityUK before normal services could resume at 1259.
Trams Out of Service
Two trams were out of service at times during these two periods:
1016 was out of service in period 8 after entering the Special Project Programme in mid-November. It returned to service on 30th December 2011.
3007 was out of service between 11th and 22nd November 2011 to be fitted with ATS (Automatic Tram Stop) equipment.
Complaints
The total number of complaints received was 611 in period 7 and 510 in period 8. This was
a major decline from period 6 when 2031 complaints had been received. 32% of the complaints received in these two periods were due to service disruption. Interestingly 20 commendations were also received in these two periods – with over 100 now received in the last 12 months.
