Picture in Time: South Yorkshire Supertram 12 & 03

A pair of Siemens-Duewag trams feature in today’s edition of Picture in Time as we stay in Sheffield.

Last time out we featured an image before any of the sections of the original network had opened and this time the entire system is now operational – but only just. It is 25th October 1995 and the final piece of the Supertram jigsaw between Shalesmoor and Malin Bridge/Middlewood had opened just two days previously and to celebrate the fact free travel was on offer as can be seen by the signs in both the driver’s windscreen and also stickers on the windows.

In this image we see 12 on the right – on a Yellow route working to Middlewood – and 03 on the left (Blue route to Halfway) at Hillsborough.
