Details announced for first stage of 2019 Supertram rail replacement works

Passengers who usually travel on the Blue and Yellow routes of Stagecoach Supertram beyond Hillsborough better get used to service disruption as the start of a long period of rail replacement works gets underway on Friday 19th April with the first details announced of the planned service.

Area 1 will see the track replaced at Hillsborough Corner and on Middlewood Road towards Hillsborough Park. This will mean that from Friday 19th April until Sunday 2nd June no trams, on either the Blue or Yellow route, will be able to go beyond Hillsborough with replacement bus services put on instead. Initially there will be just one bus route – serving both Malin Bridge and stops to Middlewood – before from 23rd April a second replacement bus serves Malin Bridge.

Standard tram frequencies will be in operation for much of the day with trams every 12 minutes on either route terminating at Hillsborough and every 20 minutes early mornings and late evenings. The one main change to usual frequencies is that the 10 minute peak frequency isn’t offered save for a couple of journeys on the Blue route in the evening. The Purple route and Tram-Train service will be unaffected by the works in Area 1.

* Full details on Area 1 works can be found on the Stagecoach Supertram website.
