Supertram rail replacement work to continue

The continued project to replace track on Stagecoach Supertram will be back in 2019 with work scheduled to affect Blue and Yellow route services between mid-April and late August. Once again the work will be taking place in phases with five different areas identified for the new track to be installed, replacing track which was originally laid in the 1990s.

Work is scheduled to take place as follows:

19th April to 2nd June

Hillsborough Corner and Middlewood Road

3rd June to 18th July

Shalesmoor towards Hillsborough

22nd July to 25th July

Shalesmoor

26th July to 9th August

Hillsborough towards Holme Lane

25th to 30th August

Glossop Road (University of Sheffield Curve)

Volker Rail will once again be undertaking the work (having previously been used in the other phases of work between 2013 and 2018) and at times when it isn’t possible to run trams dedicated replacement buses will run instead. During all of the above periods both the Blue and Yellow routes will be running part route only with the Purple route also seeing some amendments at times. The only route which will run uninterrupted at all times throughout this time will be the Tram-Train service (the Purple route will be turned short at Sheffield Station at times to allow for Blue and/or Yellow services to turn at Cathedral.

* Full details of the service planned is available for download on the Stagecoach Supertram website.
