More details released for Tramlink line closures

As we reported last month there will be some forthcoming closures on London Tramlink to allow for work to take place in connection with the replacement of Blackhorse Lane bridge over the Beckenham Junction/Elmers End lines whilst further track work will also take place in the same are during March.

In our previous report we mentioned that the first closure for the bridge works would be between Saturday 16th and Sunday 24th February and TfL have now confirmed that throughout this period there will be no trams between Addiscombe and Birkbeck/Elmers End. A replacement bus service will run from East Croydon to Birkbeck via all stops from where a shuttle tram looks set to run from there to Beckenham Junction. As a result of this service there will also be a less trams on the Wimbledon line throughout this period.

On Sunday 3rd and Sunday 10th March more bridge work will take place which will see no trams between Sandilands and Birkbeck/Elmers End but a usual service to New Addington.

Then over 1km of track is due to be replaced between Addiscombe Road and Blackhorse Lane which will include improvements to the foundations on which new ballast, sleepers and track will then be laid. The alignment of the track will also be improved with the aim of improving the ride quality for passengers. This work will see no trams able to run between Sandilands and Birkbeck/Elmers End on 16th/17th and 23rd/24th March. The closure will also be in place from Addiscombe to Birkbeck/Elmers End on the following weekend, 30th/31st March. Once again the same replacement bus service and tram service will run as with the bridge works.
