Work to take place on West Midlands Metro overhead

Over the past year (and earlier) we have often reported on overhead line faults on West Midlands Metro, causing major disruption to the service. But now major work is to be undertaken on upgrading the overhead in an effort to improve the reliability which will hopefully mean the major disruption seen at several times in 2018 will be a thing of the past.

To enable the work to take place there will be no tram services between Soho Benson Road and Grand Central on Sunday 13th January from the start of service until 1300. A replacement bus service will run between these stops and trams will continue to run every 15 minutes between Soho Benson Road and Wolverhampton St George’s. Normal services should resume from 1300.

The work is part of an ongoing investment programme in existing infrastructure and will see the installation of important new components to the lines in this section.

is the whole thing being replaced, poles as well, or just the wires and connectors?
