Farewell to return tickets on NET

Anyone travelling on Nottingham Express Transit from Monday 7th January will see some changes to the fare structure with the removal of all return tickets based on “customer feedback” and aimed at “simplifying” fares. From this date anyone wanting to make a return trip on the same day will either have to buy two separate singles or alternatively purchase a day ticket (which works out cheaper than two singles but is more expensive than the current return).

A day ticket costs £4 for adults from either the ticket machines on each platform or on mobile (£3.70 max on the Mango card or £3.60 max on the Robin Hood card, if using one operator) and this price will remain as currently from the fare change date. The price of a return ticket is currently £3.50 with singles available for £2.20.

In explaining the decision to make these changes, Stephanie Moss-Pearce, NET Marketing Manager, said: “The changes, to be introduced on January 7, will streamline our ticket offer and make it similar to that of other transport operators in the city – making travelling by tram even easier.”

Other changes from 7th January will see concessionary all day unlimited travel for pass holders from outside Nottinghamshire available at £2.50 – the same price as their equivalent return ticket prices currently so they will not lose out in this new structure. There will also be the introduction of student single, day and week tickets costing £1.70, £3.10 and £13.50 respectively.

There will also be what are described as small increases to adult and under 19 single ticket cash fares to £2.30 and £1.20 – an increase of 10p in both cases.

An offer will also return for first time buyers of monthly season tickets – or those who haven’t used one for three months – with a ticket available for £40. These tickets must be purchased between 7th January and 9th February and is a saving of £15 on standard monthly ticket prices.
