Progress made on Glory Mine relay

Whilst Crich Tramway Village may have closed to the public at the start of November that doesn’t mean that everyone has packed up and gone home – far from it! The big winter project this year is the relaying of track at Glory Mine, which will also see the stub track reinstated with overgrown foliage set to be removed to facilitate this.

The old trackwork and ballast has been removed from Glory Mine and it is planned that the new formation bed will be in place by Christmas. Fresh lengths of rail have also been laid alongside ready for installation with 280 tonnes of fresh ballast set to be put into place and compacted to the correct levels.

The formation at Glory Mine will be a like for like replacement but will also include the reinstatement of the stub track at the very end of the line. This has been out of use for several years and requires the overgrown foliage to be removed before it can be used again. It is then planned that overhead will be reinstalled in the new year.

The new track will also be installed in the new year along with the reinstallation of the overhead and the repainting of the overhead poles. All this work should be completed well in time for the reopening of the museum on Saturday 16th March 2019.
