Around the World in Trams: Lille 17

As we continue our world tour we land in France with a view of a tram from Lille.

The system in Lille is known locally as Le Mongy and is of metre gauge with two lines running from Lille but dividing with one branch to Tourcoing and the other to Roubaix, both towns which are close to the border with Belgium.

In this photo we see no. 17 operating a service from Lille to Tourcoing on 26th February 1996. It has just left the stop at Pont Hydraulique. The tram is one of a batch built by Breda in 1993/94 and remains in service to this day.
