Picture in Time: South Yorkshire Supertram 21

In this edition of Picture in Time we are in Sheffield as we feature one of the Siemens Duewag trams built for the opening of the Supertram network in the 1990s.

Both of the below images show 21 (now simply renumbered 121) in the original Grey/Blue livery heading through the Park Grange Estate on the Blue and Purple routes on the way to Halfway and Herdings Park. However, at the time of these photos – 12th August 1994 – the full route hadn’t opened with trams only able to travel as far as Spring Lane. It wouldn’t be until 27th March 1995 that trams would reach Halfway and 3rd April 1995 for Herdings Park. This tram remains in service today and can be regularly seen in operation across the main Supertram network.

Both Photographs by Bob Hodges
