Rare chance to see behind the scenes at Edinburgh Trams

There has always been a certain fascination about tram depots and just what goes on behind the closed doors with open days a popular way to see where the trams are maintained and stored when not in service. The latest system to open the doors to visitors in Edinburgh Trams as part of the Doors Open Day on Saturday 29th September – and entry is free!

This is the first time ever that the doors of Gogar Depot are being opened to the general public and lucky participants will be able to find out more about what happens behind the scenes. Highlights will include an insight into the training, a tour of the Operations Control Centre and workshop. There will be guided tours, information leaflets/notes and video and audio presentations as part of the access as well.

Although entry will be free advanced booking will be necessary and this can be done at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/edinburgh-trams-doors-open-day-tickets-49382441211. For safety reasons only over 18s will be able to join the tour and Photo ID is required for those attending. The tour will last between 60 and 90 minutes.

* And if behind the scenes tours are your kind of thing don’t forget that as part of the Anniversary Spectacular in Blackpool on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September there is the chance to have a tour of Rigby Road and Starr Gate Depots. Again, advanced booking is required (tours on Saturday 22nd are now sold out) and further details on how to book can be found here.
