MER Trailer 42 back in service

We reported a few days ago that Manx Electric Railway trailer 42 was set to return to service imminently and no sooner has we run that story than it did! Monday 4th June was the day – for the first in nine years – that 42 returned to passenger service.

It was allocated – along with Open Motor 16 – to work the 1440 service from Derby Castle on that day and has since been used on several other occasions. This included use on Ramsey Sprint Day, 5th June, when it was paired with Tunnel Car 9. In total 12 car sets were used on this day, with all running as motor and trailer.

Ahead of returning service 42 has enjoyed not only a full repaint but new wheels along with a complete refurbishment. It has last operated in 2009.
