Power outage causes Metrolink disruption

On Wednesday 18th April there were some changes to Manchester Metrolink services after a non-tram power supply outage affecting the area around Victoria station. The Electricity North West power cut saw services during the morning rush hour affected with Metrolink apologising for the inconvenience caused to passengers.

Trams from Bury were not able to stop at Victoria and were running via the Second City Crossing, for those services which usually went to Piccadilly they were diverted to Deansgate-Castlefield where they terminated for their return journey.

Trams on the Rochdale and Oldham line were diverted onto the original city crossing via Shudehill and Market Street instead of via 2CC and Exchange Square.

The power outage lasted between 0724 and 0816 but Metrolink services were affected for longer than this with trams still reporting delays at 0930.
