Oldham Metrolink line hailed a success

Figures recently released have shown that the Metrolink extension through to Oldham Mumps has been a success with over 250,000 journeys made in the first three months. The line was finally opened on 13th June and sees a tram every 12 minutes from St Werburgh’s Road via the City Centre.

Cllr Andrew Fender, chairman of TfGM Committee, said: “The line to Oldham Mumps is a fantastic addition. It’s great to see how many people are already using it and we look forward to welcoming even more people on board in the future.”

It is reported that over 10,000 tickets each week are sold for trams through to Oldham Mumps. It is planned that by the end of this year the line will be extended through to Rochdale before further extensions in 2014 when Oldham and Rochdale Town Centre’s join the network which will see the current Oldham Mumps stop closed.

Great news for Oldham. The best is yet to come as more & more people will use it (because the bus services are so bad) when the Town Centre extention opens in 2014. Work is now well under way. Only problem with this is that all the roadworks are causing gridlock especially at the Manchester Street roundabout where the trams will cross after leaving the Westwood stop to the Town Centre.
