In Pictures: LCC Tram Trailer

Dotted around the UK are a number of little known tram bodies in smaller transport museums which don’t get much coverage but are as important to the history of trams than those at higher profile locations. One such tram is a London County Council tram trailer which is now located at the Canvey Island Transport Museum.

Full details of the LCC trailer which can be found at this museum are not known but it is a fairly recent arrival having only been discovered in a garden of a derelict bungalow in 2015. It is believed to have been there since the 1930s when it was deemed surplus to requirements in the capital and was at risk of being demolished along with the bungalow when it was rescued by local transport enthusiasts for movement to the Transport Museum. It is said to be a LCC trailer dating from 1913 although no further details of the body are known – can any of our readers confirm or correct any details above.

The body of the LCC trailer is seen in this view taken at the Canvey Island Transport Museum on 8th October. With this being an easy day it wasn’t easy to get a clear photo of the body which was also surrounded by preserved buses. (Photograph by Ken Jones)
