Picture in Time: Docklands Light Railway 04

Our modern edition of Picture in Time this week comes from the Docklands Light Railway as we go back to 1994 for a view of P86 04.

In this photo we see 04 just approaching the stop at West India Quay in a fairly unrecognisable scene from that we see today. At this stage the Docklands Light Railway network was a much smaller affair than that we see today and West India Quay was a simple station with no flyovers or platform avoiding lines whilst the delta junction was still in use as this was a junction from Stratford and from 1994 Beckton. 04 was one of the P86 units built by Linke-Hoffmann-Busch and eventually sold for further use to Essen in Germany. Carrying the familiar red and blue colour scheme the unit is on its way to Island Gardens which was the terminus for all services heading this way through West India Quay until the Lewisham line was built.
