We have two celebrity Balloon Cars for today’s Picture in Time image as we head back to 2004 for a view of 700 and 706.
As we saw last time 2004 saw celebrations on the Blackpool Tramway for the 70th anniversary of the English Electric built streamlined trams and 11th September 2004 was the day of a special cavalcade with both 700 and 706 involved. Once the cavalcade was over a number of the trams enter service on specials and this included these two trams. On the left of this shot we have 700 – in its heritage type overhaul including twin indicators and operating with a trolley pole – whilst 706 is seen on the right carrying a variation of the original fleet livery. Both trams are also fitted with old style destination blinds. The location is unmistakable as North Pier with Princess Alice standing on the centre track ahead of its return south.
