First track laid on Bilston Road

The rapid progress being made on the track relay along Bilston Road has continued with the first sections of track being laid last weekend. The project – which only started in June – is due to take six months with Midland Metro services due to resume to Wolverhampton St George’s by December but with the quick progress already made could an early return be on the cards?

Alejandro Moreno, Director of Midland Metro Alliance, said: “The operatives working along the Bilston Road on this project have been working very hard and the first tracks being placed and concrete being poured is a great sign that the project is running to schedule.”

Over 60 metres of replacement track was laid on Bilston Road during the weekend.

* Meanwhile over in Birmingham work has commenced on utility diversions for the extension to Edgbaston. Amongst the first utilities to be dealt with are the water mains in Ryland Street which has necessitated some traffic management to be put in place for 12 weeks. The Edgbaston line is due to open in 2021.
