Picture in Time: Croydon Tramlink 2536

Our latest modern tram image in the archive photo series Picture in Time comes from Croydon as we take a look at a tram during the pre-opening period in 1999 of CR4000 2536.

2536 had arrived at Therapia Lane Depot on 11th January 1999 having been built in Austria by Bombardier and by the time this photo was taken on 18th August 1999 it had been commissioned and was being used on test and driver training runs. It is passing through the stop at East Croydon which at this time was still under construction as evidenced by the men in fluorescent jackets busy on the right. 2536 is passing through the least used of the three platforms at East Croydon as it heads west towards central Croydon with the original destination blind showing this as a special.
