Snow Hill becomes St Chads

A new year has equalled a new stop name in Birmingham City Centre with the stop adjacent to Snow Hill station now known as St Chads. The change was made from New Year’s Day and is said to more reflect the wider area although it is adjacent to Snow Hill railway station, albeit currently without any direct access.

Since the stop opened there has said to be some confusion over the best stop to use for Snow Hill railway station (as things stand at the moment Bull Street is the easier stop to access the station owing to the fact that there is no direct access from the stop now known as St Chads). It is now the intention that any passengers wishing to alight for Snow Hill should use Bull Street which is just a short walk away from the main station entrance. However work on installing a lift and stairs from St Chads that will allow access to the station’s second entrance in Livery Street via Lionel Street is due to be completed by the end of January so from then St Chads will also have easy access to Snow Hill after all!

Phil Hewitt, Metro programme director for Transport for West Midlands, said: “The name-change reflects the wider area that the stop serves and removes any potential for confusion with passengers who believe they can access Snow Hill station from it. Passengers can access Snow Hill by using the lift or stairs then the second access in Livery Street. However Bull Street, which provides level access to Snow Hill and has an attractive walking route, will be the primary Metro stop for the rail station.”
