Picture in Time: Manx Electric Railway 6

We are on the Isle of Man again for today’s Picture in Time image as our archive finds itself in 1977 for a view at Derby Castle.

The tram at the forefront of this image is Manx Electric Railway Tunnel Car no. 6 with an unidentified trailer for company. 6 had been built in 1894 by G F Milnes of Birkenhead and arrived on the island along with the other five members of the six strong class of which four remain as part of the operational fleet today. In this view taken in the summer of 1977 6 is carrying the traditional Manx Electric Railway colours and the brightly lit saloon looks very welcoming as darkness falls on Douglas.
