73 more jobs advertised for NET Phase Two construction

A further 73 construction jobs were advertised at the end of July to help with the building of Phase Two of Nottingham Express Transit, in a major sign that progress on the two new lines is happening rapidly. This last batch of jobs advertised is in connection with the laying of the new tracks and will join the 153 people already employed by Taylor Woodrow Alstom.

As part of the recruitment process applicants who require extra training and support to secure one of the jobs will be invited to attend a six week pre-employment training programme, which is funded through the Skills Funding Agency. Anyone who completes this programme will then be guaranteed an interview for one of the jobs available.

Cllr Nick McDonald, Portfolio Holder for Jobs, Skills and Business at Nottingham City Council, said: “In a time of such economic constraints and few job opportunities, it is great to be advertising so many job opportunities. As well as creating jobs, NET Phase Two is also generating construction work opportunities for local companies and people, and will help to stimulate the local economy to generate long term employment growth, inward investment and regeneration which we know building new tram lines brings.”

The two new lines which are part of NET Phase Two will link the current network with Beeston, Chilwell and Clifton and are due to open during 2014.

In view of the outstanding seccuss of LRT in Manchester, Sheffield, Croydon, Nottingham, will the minister please explain why Leeds has been stuffed yet again! Not even one pathetic trolleybus route is likely to get the go-ahead now! Mind you, when his predecessor cancelled the Leeds Supertram Project, a DofT minion is quoted as saying that Leeds would be getting a much more cost-effective state of the art system; a sort of tram on wheels !!! WHAT!!! With attitud like that what chance is there? Just what has Leeds done to offended the DOT so much?
