Repaints start and repaints approach an end at Beamish

Work has now started at Beamish on repainting Gateshead 10 into British Railways green with all efforts being made on completing the paint job by the start of the Power from the Past event between 30th August and 2nd September. Meanwhile work on Oporto 196 is nearing completion and it certainly looks as if this tram will be quite a start at the event in its new livery.

The majority of the paintwork has  now been completed on 196 and recent attention has seen the trolleybase refitted along with all the platform vestibule components. A few jobs remain to be done on the tram and once these are completed it shouldn’t be too long before the tram is seen outside once again looking very different to how it did last time it carried passengers. As part of the trams overhaul it has been repainted in the distinctive South Shields blue and primrose livery which will provide a welcome contrast with the
other trams in the Beamish fleet.

With Power from the Past rapidly approaching attention is now also being turned towards Gateshead 10. This tram is to be painted into British Railways green, a livery which it carried when it was sold by Gateshead for operation on the Grimsby and Immingham Tramway. As part of this work the tram will once again become Grimsby and Immingham 26 and s sure to be popular with enthusiasts, many of whom have been calling for this to happen for many years. The initial work being undertaken on the tram has seen the Gateshead livery sanded down after which a start can be made on the painting of the new livery. It will certainly be a tight timescale to get the tram completed in time for Power from the Past but if any organisation can achieve it then it is Beamish. If you would like to support for the repainting of the tram you can donate towards the project by visiting http://www.justgiving.com/Gateshead10.

Yet again Beamish lead the way in providing variety and with Gateshead 10 something which will for a temporary period will be to me one of the most exciting repaints in many years. I only hope it could stay that way for at least a year, at least then appearing at the gnsf in April.

For me personally nowhere beats Beamish, sorry Crich, and its an 8 hr round trip by public transport but so well worth it. Well done to all concerned.
