Tramlink drivers to go on 48 hour strike

It has been confirmed that London Tramlink drivers will go on strike for 48 hours on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th June as the dispute over pay intensifies. As we previously reported ASLEF members voted in favour of going on strike (a 100% mandate on an 80% turnout) over the 2.6% pay offer on the table and the dates they will go on strike have now been publically announced.

The dispute centres over changes to the pension on offer which has meant staff are having to put in higher amounts each month to get similar benefits and the 2.6% pay rise is said to not cover the lower take home pay. It is reported on the ASLEF website that since the announcement was made about the ballot management have refused to meet union representatives to discuss the dispute any further.

No details of what – if any – service will be able to operate on these days have yet been announced by Tramlink but it is expected that there will be huge disruption to passengers throughout both days.

    Hang on a tick.
How many of croydons tram drivers are actually aslef members?
When i worked there, admitedly years ago now, the principle union of which 85% of drivers were a member was unite, not aslef.
Aslef were not being recognised by the company.
There were only about 6 aslef members at that time, other drivers such as me, not being in the union.

So it maybe worth someone finding out.

Just did some checking around and no where does it say how many aslef members there are. There is a suggestion another union may be involved as there is a lot of ‘we urge aslef to join US in the negotiations’ so unless first are talking to themselves who is the us
Plus who are thes union negotiators who agreed the deal that aslef are ignoring.

There are just over 100 ASLEF Members. The remaining drivers (just under 50 of them) are either in Unite or no union. With 100% of those returning their ballot papers voting for strike action, there is going to be major disruption. It is unlikely that either Unite members nor non-members will cross the picket line so most of the few trams that will run will be driven by managers.

Following an improved offer by First Tram Operations, ASLEF has suspended the strike for next week.
