[Apologies for the delay in this story appearing] Manchester Metrolink had another day of woe on Saturday 30th April with services disrupted by two incidents – just five days after the major suspension of all lines following a systems failure in the Trafford Control Centre.
The first incident saw a woman fall on the tracks close to Market Street stop at 0940 which brought trams on the Bury and Rochdale lines to a standstill. Paramedics were called to the scene and took the woman to hospital with a suspected fractured ankle although not before services were delayed.
Then just after 1100 a power failure at St Peter’s Square led to several lines coming to a halt with passengers stuck on board whilst the issue was dealt with. Reports differed of passengers being stuck on trams for between 30 minutes and an hour with some being escorted off trams but for others it was decided it was safer for them to remain on board until the power could be restored. The power was eventually restored and trams were on the move shortly before 1240 although by this time there was severe delays on the Altrincham, Ashton-under-Lyne, Bury, East Didsbury and Eccles lines.
