Another recruitment drive in Blackpool

With ambitious plans to build on a successful 2015 with even more exciting treats for 2016, the Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours team are now recruiting volunteers to help provide an even better heritage service next season. As confirmed recently, this will include further increases to the number of running days for the historic trams whilst there will also be even more ‘gold’ event days when six or more trams will be running.

Building on the success of the 2015 season, Blackpool Heritage Trust & Blackpool Heritage Tram Tours now have opportunities for volunteers in the following roles; Tram Crew (Drivers & Conductors), Customer Service Team Members & Depot Tour Guides.

As a member of the Tram Crew team, you will be responsible for ensuring that vehicles from the heritage fleet are operated safely and professionally in passenger service along the 11 miles of the world famous Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway. As a Conductor/Guard, you will be of smart appearance, primarily provide exceptional customer facing service and be responsible for the safety of passengers boarding and alighting at designated tram stops and for ticket sales and revenue collection on this popular tourist service. Opportunities also now exist to become a Tram Driver, but please be aware that there is a rigorous training and testing process and we would expect a serious level of commitment for those successful. To be considered as a Tram Driver, you must hold a current UK DVLA car licence and be able to pass a medical assessment to PCV standard. Tram Drivers are also trained and qualified as Conductor/Guards and will be used for both roles as the business requires. Applications from those holding current heritage Tram Driving licences at other locations are also very welcome although the application, training & assessment process and standards will still apply.

You may wish to become part of our Customer Service & Depot Tour Guides team. These important front of house roles can be based at key locations on the Promenade giving information about the heritage tram service, selling merchandise either on board or at static locations and showing groups of visitors around our original Tram Depot and workshops amongst other tasks which will be required as the business grows. The commitment in these roles can be very flexible so even if you only have a spare couple of hours that you can help out, you will be very welcome and your time appreciated. We can’t say any more officially at the moment but recruiting into these posts gives a strong hint of the future!

Expressions of interest are invited from those who possess a passion for excellent standards of customer service, enthusiasm, self motivation and drive that will help the heritage trams team achieve the success in becoming a world class heritage visitor attraction in Blackpool. If you have some free time and would like to become part of the volunteer team, please request an application form by emailing your name and full postal address to; martin.gurr@blackpooltransport.com stating the post(s) in which you are interested.

The recruitment & assessment process will predominantly run during January 2016 with training courses starting soon after.

Oh gosh, I would love to volunteer! My grandparents would take me to Blackpool twice a year, a week each time, and I have wanted to drive the balloon cars ever since! I even worked for First in Croydon as a driver for 5 years and loved every minute. Well most of the time.

Sadly work, distance, travel costs and other commitments do not allow me to volunteer 🙁
