T68 1010 heads for scrapping

1010 has become the latest T68 to leave Trafford Depot for scrapping, leaving during the evening of 14th August – the eleventh T68/T68A to head to Booths in Rotherham for an appointment with the cutters torch.

New to Manchester on 12th January 1992 and entering service on 6th April 1992, 1010 had several notable achievements during its career. It was the first T68 to undergo commissioning works at Bury Depot when GEC Alsthom hired the old BR depot for commissioning the vehicles but probably its biggest claim to fame came on 17th July 1992 when it was chosen to carry Her Majesty the Queen from St Peter’s Square to Bury following the official opening of Metrolink. It also became the third and final vehicle to be converted into a T68M for use on the Eccles line with the LRV entering service in this guise on 26th July 2000. 1010 was withdrawn on 2nd September 2012 becoming the eighth to run its last passenger journeys.
