Advertising on Blackpool’s modern trams has long been a thing of mystery – its been limited in its scope and then when an advert does appear it seems to be on the tram for extended periods, even when the contract runs out. But all this should now change with advertising now being taken in-house with Blackpool Transport’s own commercial team now having full responsibility to find advertisers for the trams.
The new era (for want of a better word) of tram advertising has already been seen in recent months with a new partial wrap for Blackpool Zoo revealed in June whilst just a few weeks ago 014 received a full wrap for the Netflix series Wednesday. Meanwhile, other long-expired adverts have started to come off the trams.
And now Blackpool Transport are urging local businesses and attractions to take advantage of a fantastic way to raise their profiles as tourists flock to the town this autumn for the annual Illuminations.
Jamie Swift, Head of Commercial at Blackpool Transport, commented: “The zoo tram wrap has certainly been turning heads on the seafront, and it’s now easier than ever for other organisations to catch the eye of potential visitors and customers with the help of Blackpool Transport. The ‘T-bar’ wrap featuring the zoo, uses the upper panels and centre section of the tram, is one of three styles available. Others include a full panel wrap, which can be extended to include the cab ends.
“A limited number of discounted options are still available for the remainder of 2025, and several local attractions have already approached us expressing an interest in following in the footsteps, or rather hoof prints, of the zoo.”
Della Belk, Customer Director at Blackpool Zoo, said: “We’re thrilled to have Blackpool Zoo adorn a tram for the first time in many years. The booking process was easy with Blackpool Transport, and it has proved the perfect way to showcase the zoo to the tourists and residents along the promenade.”
Three types of external advertising is being offered:
- T Bar Promotional Wrap – centre section is a full height wrap with the rest of the tram featuring adverts above the windows
- Slab Wrap – full tram excluding cab ends
- Full Wrap – full tram including cab ends
A full wrap for 12 months or more would set you back £14,500 for production and fitting whilst a similar length of time for a T Bar ad is £6.900. Further media costs are also added on top of this and none of the prices quoted include VAT.
