Out and About 2025: South Yorkshire Supertram – July 2025

We return for another set of images as part of our “Out and About” series and the first system we visit will be the South Yorkshire Supertram.

399 201 is one of seven Citylink tram-trains built for Supertram in 2015/6. Four were initially ordered for the tram-train service to Rotherham Parkgate with the other three to be used to provide additional capacity on the network. Those vehicles used on the tram-train service can’t be used on the conventional tram service as they have different wheels, unless they are swapped that is which has happened on occasion. This is one of the Citylinks which is currently allocated to the tram-train service and is seen arriving at Meadowhall South/Tinsley.

We then see the same Citylink as it turns to the right and takes Tinsley South junction to go onto the Tram-Train route to Rotherham Central and Rotherham Parkgate. Trams to Meadowhall Interchange go straight on here. (Both Photographs by Stuart Cooke, 3rd July 2025)
